Worst spoilers

Give ESPN and the NFL Network credit for showing many of the draft picks getting their selection phone call right before they were picked, but knowing the pick before commissioner Roger Goodell announced it took some fun out of the draft, didn't it?

Worst line by a good analyst

You had to wince when ESPN's Steve Young called USC quarterback Mark Sanchez "presidential,'' as if Sanchez is off to fix the economy or end a war. But Young and all his ESPN partners — especially Mel Kiper and Keyshawn Johnson — were outstanding all day. No one knows more, and no one delivered more, than Kiper.

Best Steve Young line

"The toughest thing to do in (the NFL) is go from seven wins to 10.''

Best Keyshawn Johnson line

"You don't have to be fast in this league to make plays. I think it was a big mistake to pass on Crabtree.''

Johnson, after the Raiders selected Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey with the No. 7 overall pick instead of Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree. ESPN's Todd McShay, who had Heyward-Bey as his 25th-best player in the draft, came strong: "This has bust written all over it.''

Best analyst

Jon Gruden's true calling might be as an analyst. The former Bucs coach now works for the NFL Network, and he's excellent. The most interesting moment was Gruden predicting the Bucs would take Kansas State QB Josh Freeman. He then said, somewhat surprisingly, "I wish I was in that war room to congratulate them.''

Two best cut-in shots

One was watching Georgia RB Knowshon Moreno playing cards with family while waiting to be picked. The other was watching Penn State DE Aaron Maybin crying on his mother's shoulder after being picked 11th by the Bills.

Best call

Kudos to ESPN's Michael Smith for predicting several teams would pass on WR Michael Crabtree and that Crabtree would end up with the 49ers.

Best point

Did the Bucs do the right thing by trading up and taking Josh Freeman? ESPN's Steve Young thinks so: "It's a quarterback league. If you have a quarterback, you have a chance. If you don't, you don't have a chance.'' However, ESPN's Todd McShay thought No. 17 was too high to take Freeman.
