Bucs-Cardinals: Poll, numbers, what they're saying

The poll

Now that Josh Freeman has been benched, what's your opinion about the move?

Totally right call; he was ineffective: 44 percent

Fire Greg Schiano instead; he's the problem: 33 percent

Nothing's going to help at this point: 23 percent

Total: 3,172 votes

By the numbers

9-8 Bucs' record against the Cardinals, including 6-2 over the past eight meetings

3 Offensive touchdowns for the Bucs, tied with the Jaguars for fewest in the NFL

9 Fingertips for Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson, who lost the tip of his left middle finger last week against the Saints

79 Receiving yards needed by Mike Williams to pass Michael Clayton (2,936) for ninth in Bucs history

85 Receiving yards needed by Williams to pass Bruce Hill (2,942) for eighth

What they're saying

Mike Glennon, come on down! You are the next contestant up to try to salvage this Tampa season that seems destined to sink into the abyss. … This move ensures a backdrop of continued distractions around this team, and we'll see how it works out in football terms as well. Perhaps it sparks the team. But if it doesn't, Greg Schiano's tenure becomes the subject of even more scrutiny.

Jason La Canfora CBS Sports

I thought (Josh Freeman) was an extremely talented young guy. I don't know why (the change) not being there day to day. You just hear stories, but I know he's a big, strong, athletic guy who can throw the football.

The picks

Always love the So-and-So is our quarterback on Monday at least until a Wednesday pivot that a head coach or two seems to do every season. Not blaming Greg Schiano for buying himself some time on the Josh Freeman benching. But talk about reversing field. It makes everything Schiano says for a while subject to be taken with a boulder-sized grain of salt. Mike Glennon should give the Bucs offense a boost if only because the Freeman era had run its course and change had become inevitable. Bucs, 24-21.

Don Banks Sports Illustrated

I was going to pick the Bucs in this spot. Not anymore. Tampa Bay is in panic mode. Coach Greg Schiano is benching Josh Freeman for Mike Glennon. Why? Yes, Freeman was off to a slow start, but is Glennon ready? I see Arizona confusing him and forcing turnovers that lead to a Cardinals victory. The seat gets hotter for Schiano. Cardinals, 23-14.

Pete Prisco CBS Sports

The Mike Glennon era begins with a thud. He may play well, but something screwy will happen. And it will be someone's fault other than the head coach's. Cardinals, 20-17.
