Bucs show appreciation for military

Bucs' appreciation for military shown

TAMPA — The Bucs hosted military personnel, their families and veterans at training camp Friday and began practice with an emotion-stirring trumpet performance of the national anthem before a flag guard of wounded veterans.

"It was awesome, man," said WR Vincent Jackson, whose Jacksoninaction83 foundation assists military families. "Having a day dedicated to these service men and women and their families, then to come out here and having the color guard of veterans, it was beautiful. I think a lot of guys paid reverence to it and I like the way the young guys respected it. It was nice of them to come out here and kind of be the shining star of practice."

The Bucs also on Friday distributed 2,000 tickets to a preseason game. Jackson, who is from a military family, and his wife, Lindsey, released their second children's book: Danny Dogtags: Soccer Superhero. It will be on sale through online retailers Sept. 6. The Jacksons' first book, Danny Dogtags: Dealing with Deployment, focuses on the emotions children experience when a parent or loved one is deployed.

"We're just proud to continue to provide some support, not only for military families, but youth in general … letting them know it's important to get out, be healthy, be good in school and be good citizens."

Quote of the day

"No, I don't think that. That's for you guys to decide."

Coach Dirk Koetter, when asked if he thought the Bucs are flying under the radar this season:

First open practice today

Bucs fans can get their first glimpse of their team during the first open workout of training camp this from 8:45 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. "I hope they just come out and see a team working hard and a team they feel like they can get behind," Koetter said. "We need them on Sundays in the fall, and hopefully they like the product we're putting out there." Admission and parking are free at One Buc Place.

Plastic man

The Bucs will give every fan attending the Oct. 30 game against Oakland a "Starting Lineup" figurine of QB Jameis Winston, specially commissioned as a throwback to the popular plastic collectibles of a generation ago.
