Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez said that former Florida Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, signed by Philadelphia last week, is an extra arm for training camp.

Sanchez, likely to compete with Tebow and Matt Barkley for a backup role behind former Rams No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford, told csnphilly.com that Tebow was signed to help give receivers more work because Bradford isn't 100 percent healthy.

"He's obviously a great guy, he works hard," Sanchez, who played with Tebow in 2012 while with the Jets, told the website. "And we needed another guy to throw while Sam's still recovering. So that's the reason (the Eagles signed Tebow), at least as explained to me."

Marino preference: Hall of Fame Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino said he wouldn't trade his place in the Hall for a Super Bowl title. Marino's only Super Bowl appearance with Miami, in Super Bowl XIX, ended in a 38-16 loss to the 49ers. Marino, 53, was asked Friday at a Hall of Fame luncheon if he would trade his Hall jacket for a Super Bowl ring. His response: "No."

Prospect's failed tests: Former LSU cornerback Jalen Collins, projected to perhaps go in the first two rounds of the draft, failed multiple drug tests in college, the NFL Network reported.

Manning donation: Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning donated $3 million to his alma mater, Tennessee, the school's athletic department announced. The school said the donation was made in the name of two longtime Volunteers staffers, Gus Manning (no relation) and Carmen Tegano. Gus Manning has spent 64 years working for the UT athletics department, starting in 1951. Tegano has worked there since 1985.

Under water: Two days after a verbal altercation with new teammate Davon Coleman, Cowboys defensive lineman Greg Hardy had to abandon his car, a Bentley, in high water after a flash flood hit Dallas, TV station WFAA reported.

Panthers: The team exercised middle linebacker Luke Kuechly's fifth-year option of his rookie deal, the Charlotte Observer reported. Kuechly, entering his fourth season, will be paid a guaranteed salary of $11.1 million in 2016 with the option.
