Lawrence Samuels out as Tampa Bay Storm coach

Lawrence Samuels, who has been the coach of the Tampa Bay Storm since Sept. 5, 2013, is no longer with the team. It was a mutual parting of ways, according to the Storm.

"I want to thank Lawrence for his hard work and dedication to the Tampa Bay Storm as our head coach," team president Derrick Brooks said in a news release from the team.

The Storm's season ended on Sunday with a 63-41 first-round playoff loss at Philadelphia. Samuels, who played for the Storm 15 seasons and set several franchise records, never had a winning season as a coach, going 17-36. Tampa Bay was just 2-15 this season.

"I want to thank the Tampa Bay Storm organization for giving me the opportunity to be its head coach these past three seasons," Samuels said in the release. "I have many great memories from my time here as a player and a coach, and I want to thank the fans for all of their support. The Storm, and the fans, will always hold a place close to my heart."
