Around the county in 30 days A daily spring preview of every football program in the county. Calvary Christian Coach: Chris Rivera (third season, 9-11) Last season: 4-6 District: Class B-6 (Bradenton Christian, Bradenton Prep, Cambridge, Keswick Christian, Sarasota Out-of-Door) Key losses: OL/DL Steven Carrick, TE/LB Braden Dollar, OL Matt Nelson, LB/RB Blake Rowland, LB Nate Ustianowski, FB Tommy Witcher Who's back: QB Buddy Adzima, WR/LB Jordan Ankrom, NG Andrew Chen, SS Grant Flammer, OL/DL Thomas Hooten, DL Marcus Montanez, WR Marcos Quinones, LB Taylor Ray, OL/DL Adam Smith, DB Ryan Smith, FS A.J. Williams What's new: With Dollar, last season's leading rusher, graduated, a committee of players will carry the ball, with Northside Christian transfer Seth Cole the leader of the committee for now. Cole, a senior recovering from an ACL injury, also will play some defensive back or outside linebacker. Another Northside transfer, senior John Stephens, will get a look at linebacker. Ankrom will transition to outside linebacker this year after spending last season primarily at wideout and wing back. "Our goal is to have him play every down on defense," Miller said. The Warriors will switch to a 3-4 defense after using 3-5-3 and 4-4 sets last season. Audibles: "Thomas Hooten is the key to our running game. He's 6 foot 3, 295 pounds. He's a bulldozer, a real animal." — Rivera Did you know? Quinones, a standout on Calvary's basketball squad, got his first taste of organized football last year, averaging nearly 17 yards a catch for the Warriors. Rivera said he'll get more touches on offense this season. "He could be a real impact guy. Nobody can match up with him on the edge if we're down inside the 10-yard line."
