Zephyrhills
Coach: Tom Fisher
(20th season, 120-75)
Last season: 5-5
District: Class 3A-8 (Gulf, Hudson, Pasco, Sunlake, Wiregrass Ranch)
Key losses: OL/DL Quentin Amos, OL/DL Sean Gray, RB/DB Chris Henry, TE/DE Joey Lyman, WR Josh Perkins, OL Reese Morrison

Who’s back: RB Lance Hayes, FB/LB Joe Maldonado, WR/DB Alex Sampson, FB/LB Anthony Viernes, QB/DL Tyler Guy, RB/WR Kyle Postin, OL/DL Cory Christensen

What’s new: Spring drills have opened two battles. Perhaps the most significant is replacing Chris Henry, who rushed for 1,100 yards in his only season as the featured tailback. Battling to fill the void are Dontrrell Parker, Algernon Sampson, Lance Hayes and Ryan Commadore. Fisher, who is coaching the receivers and running backs this spring, noted he might have several backs capable of compiling the numbers Henry put up alone last season. And there are opportunities for underclassmen to win spots on the offensive line. Fisher loses Quentin Amos, Reese Morrison and tight end Joey Lyman.

Audible: “We’re just trying to get an offensive line put together — three off your offensive line,” — Fisher

Did you know?: Junior quarterback Tyler Guy returns as starter. The three-sport star — plays basketball and baseball as well — recently attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback camp and a quarterback clinic in Alabama. Guy hasn’t grown since last season, Fisher said, and it’s too soon to tell if he has improved. Fisher noted this will be the first time in recent memory Zephyrhills will be able to use all 20 spring practices allowed by the FHSAA with school ending in June (it used to end in May).
