Around the North Suncoast in 30 days

A spring preview of every football program on the North Suncoast.

Central

Coach: Cliff Lohrey (third year, 14-7)

Last season: 6-4

District: Class 4A-8 (Land O'Lakes, Ridgewood, River Ridge, Springstead, Tarpon Springs)

Key losses: LB Nate Brazeau, DB Heath Heroux, RB Duane Marks, OL Jason Morton, WR Chad Walker, QB Chase Walker, DB Jeff Wright

Who's back: RB Austin Forte, OG/DT Kevin Grier, ILB Dan May, DT Brooks Reid, C Sam Robinson, QB Dallas Waugh

What's new: Most of the offensive backfield. Lohrey must replace his top rusher (Marks), passer (Chase Walker) and receiver (Chad Walker) from a team that upset Nature Coast and darn near upset Land O'Lakes (before losing 14-7). With most of the experience up front, look for Central to try to establish an inside run game behind Robinson and Grier, a 300-pound right guard whom Lohrey says is getting Division I looks. Lohrey also is high on Waugh, who backed up Chase Walker in 2007.

Audible: "I don't care anything about numerical balance, I just want balance capability. We've got to be able to throw it when we want to throw it, and run it when we want to run it. I think sometimes coaches limit their team by saying, 'Well, if we're a great run team maybe we can't be a great passing team.' Well, I'm greedy. I want to be great at both." — Lohrey

Did you know?: Forte (5 feet 11, 180 pounds), primarily an outside linebacker last season, is the favorite to replace Marks at tailback, but dislocated a shoulder this month, on the first day of contact. … Because of a postgame skirmish at Nature Coast in the 2007 season finale, Central is prohibited from competing in a spring game or jamboree against another school.
