A daily spring preview of every football team in Pinellas County.
Dixie Hollins
Coach: Mike Morey (11th season, 52-50)
Last season: 3-7
District: 5A-10 (Gibbs, Largo, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg, Seminole)
Key losses: LB/FB Jaron Cole, LB Ja-Far Fortt, OL Steven Reynolds, DL Chris Sanborn.
Who's back: ATH Gerard Atkins, ATH Josh Brown, RB Raheem Smith, FB James Worthen
What's new: The Rebels have plenty of depth at the skill positions. Brown, who has offers from Louisville and Troy, is a multidimensional force who will line up at quarterback or receiver. Jessie Hevia, a sophomore-to-be, will play quarterback as well. Hevia started the 2007 regular-season finale and hooked up with Brown often to help the Rebels beat Dunedin. Curtis Fisher, a transfer from Keswick Christian, will share playing time at fullback with Worthen. Smith is the tailback. The big question is how quickly the offensive and defensive lines will come together.
Audible: "We have some talent. But we're young on both sides of the ball. We're hoping our skill guys can be difference makers." — Morey
Did you know?: Four of the Rebels' losses last season were by seven points or fewer.
