Detours: a country in search of direction
On the eve of the election, a reporter and photographer set out for Washington, via America. We tell stories from seven towns, touching on seven issues from politics and real life.
Friday Night Rewind It doesn't matter which team you cheer for. We've got video previews of every high school football program in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando County.
Game show themes
These themes are probably going to make some of you have flashbacks to wasted mornings or afternoons spent sprawled in front of the TV.
A daily spring preview of every football program on the North Suncoast.
Pasco
Coach: Tom McHugh (second season, 6-5)
Last season: 6-5, lost in region quarterfinal
District: Class 3A-8 (Gulf, Hudson, Sunlake, Wiregrass Ranch, Zephyrhills)
Key losses: WR Demetrious Larry, OL Eric Stroud, OL Josh Jones, OL Chris Burgos
Who's back: ATH Josh Johnson, QB D.J. Clower, WR Hakeem Ishmar, WR Chase Dunn, K Brennan Allen, RB Jamall Haynes, LB Tim Saylor, DT Jarrod Carmody, LB Dominique Wilson
What's new: Clower is bigger, better, faster and stronger. Standing at roughly 6-2, he has gained approximately 20 pounds, putting him close to 190 after an offseason hitting the weights. He runs a 4.6 40-yard dash, leading coaches to find roles for him other than simply gunning the football downfield. He transferred from Zephyrhills last summer and after a season of getting to know a new staff, a new system and his first season of varsity as the primary quarterback, he is ready to guide the offense as the No. 1 starter.
Audible: Expect Johnson to see most of his playing time at any position other than quarterback. His speed and versatility have made him a threat anywhere on the field. "There's going to be certain situations where he probably will (play quarterback)," McHugh said. "I wouldn't rule anything out."
Did you know? Pirates lineman Mylon Brown is the nephew of former NFL star Jerome Brown. Mylon Brown has a strong physical resemblance to his late uncle, who starred at Hernando and became an All-American at the University of Miami then an All-Pro for the Philadelphia Eagles. Mylon Brown (6-4, 290) is expected to step up as a starter and went from a 225-pounder who couldn't bench press his weight to benching 300 and lifting 280 in the clean-and-jerk. "He's got a great personality and he likes to play around," McHugh said. "Now I think he's a little more focused now that he realizes this is what he wants to do. This is his chance."
