Around the North Suncoast in 30 days

A daily spring preview

of every football program on the North Suncoast.

Sunlake

Coach: Bill Browning (second season at Sunlake, 0-10; 19th season overall, 92-95)

Last season: 0-10

District: Class 3A-8 (Gulf, Hudson, Pasco, Wiregrass Ranch, Zephyrhills)

Key losses: None

Who's back: LB/OL Kyle Anderson, RB/DB Joe Connolly, OL/DL Dylan Denzik, OL/DL Jacob Henderson

What's new: A senior class, not to mention a practice field the Seahawks can rightfully call their own. This time last year, Sunlake, embarking on its inaugural season, was practicing at Pine View Middle School with borrowed equipment. Now, Browning's squad, which includes players who will be seniors, works out on a spacious field beyond the northeast corner of its on-campus stadium.

Audible: "We're going to have to get competitive before we start winning a lot of ball games, and we'll get competitive as soon as we start cranking it up on defense." — Browning, whose team gave up an average of 48.5 points in 2007

Did you know?: Neither attrition nor graduation (remember, Sunlake had no seniors last year) hurt the Seahawks' numbers in the offseason. Browning said he lost only 12 players from last year's team, but none significant contributors. … Entering the '07 season, Browning said, he had one kid bench-pressing more than 200 pounds. That figure has increased significantly, Browning said, thanks to what he has called a "great offseason" in the weight room. As if to further emphasize his team's increased physicality, Browning named three linemen — Anderson, Henderson and Denzik — when asked about players to watch in '08. "We were really just kind of thrown into this thing (last season) with pretty much a JV squad," he said.

Spring scrimmage:

6:30 p.m. May 30

2008 schedule: Sept. 5 vs. River Ridge; Sept. 19 at St. Cloud; Sept. 26 at Zephyrhills; Oct. 3 at Land O'Lakes; Oct. 10 vs. Gulf; Oct. 16 at Wesley Chapel; Oct. 24 vs. Pasco; Oct. 31 vs. Hudson; Nov. 7 at Wiregrass Ranch; Nov. 14 vs. Mitchell
