Around the county in 30 days

A daily spring preview of every football program in the county.

Northeast

Coach: Jay Austin (second season, 6-5)

Last season: 6-5. Lost to Plant 49-12 in the region quarterfinals.

District: Class 4A-9 (Boca Ciega, Bradenton Bayshore, Bradenton Southeast, Lakewood, Osceola).

Key Losses: DL Javonta Boyd, RB Jeff Brinson, DL Pat Hanley, QB/LB Armando Sanchez.

Who's back: OL Admir Mujakovic, FB Tim Tisdale, RB Juarez Wynn

What's new: The Vikings lost several big-time starters who signed with Division I programs. The biggest loss was Brinson, who rushed for more than 1,900 yards last season. Wynn, who was nominated for the Under-Armour and U.S. Army all-star games, should get the bulk of the workload. Wynn already has offers from Boston College and Indiana. He'll run behind an offensive line that returns four of its five starters, led by Mujakovic, who recently received an offer from Murray State.

Audible: "We have a lot of guys coming back who got a taste of the playoffs last season. Our strength should be on the offensive line." — Austin

Did you know?: The Vikings have had a 1,000-yard rusher in 13 of the past 15 seasons.

Spring game: Friday at Palmetto

Northeast needs to rid itself of the Austin chain. We need a change. I've seen and played in this program, and its not what it should be. Papa Austin gave up long before he retired, and Jay unfortunately has carried over some bad habits.
