Bloomingdale names Surcy football coach

Brian Surcy, a 1996 Bloomingdale graduate, sought the head football coach at his alma mater once before, applying when Corey Brinson stepped down in 2007. He was passed over, but never gave up on the dream. Early Friday morning, athletic director Donny Peek offered him the Bloomingdale job .

"For me, it's a lesson that I'll be able to teach to our kids," Surcy said. "…You're going to get disappointed, but you've just got to … believe that good things will happen for you."

Surcy, 36, replaces John Booth, who took the head coaching job at Bradenton Manatee on July 1.
