ST. PETERSBURG — Boca Ciega forced four turnovers to edge Gibbs.
"This was no upset," Boca Ciega coach Stevie Thomas said. "It was us finally coming together and playing a complete game. Give our defense some credit. The offense went dry in the second half and the defense scored for us."
Shaquille Bradford found Kendryk Boyd on fourth down to give Boca Ciega a 6-0 lead.
The Gladiators evened the score when a long Jarvis West reception set up Emmanuel Stewart for a 5-yard score.
Boca Ciega (5-5) forced a fumble and Emmerson Clarke scooped up the ball and raced 88 yards as the Pirates led 20-13 at halftime.
Gibbs (6-4) struck quickly in the second half as Josh Rembert found West for a 50-yard touchdown.
