Bradenton Prep 55, Northside Chr. 0

ST. PETERSBURG — In a game that featured a team in its third year and a team with a new head coach, young Bradenton Prep came out on top at Northside Christian.

The Patriots were led by sophomore tailback Jared William, who had 12 carries for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Zach Hammond was 4-for-4 for 175 yards and two scores; his longest was 60 yards to wide receiver Tervaris Hines.

On defense, the Patriots were led by eighth-grade end Horatio Paplilon, who sacked Robbie Williams in the end zone and recovered his fumble for a touchdown.

The Mustangs lost quarterback Jimmy VanDeilen about 21/2 minutes into the game when he was taken off the field by ambulance as a precautionary measure after an apparent helmet-to-helmet hit.

Corey Dickerson high-fives Wilson Ramos after hitting a solo home run in the third inning, putting the Rays up 2-1.
  2. Marc Topkin's takeaways from Tuesday's Rays-Blue Jays game

    The Heater

C Wilson Ramos, coming off major right knee surgery, understandably often takes it easy running the bases, though it's not always a good look. But he hustled when he needed to Tuesday and got the Rays a run by beating out a two-out infield single.

ST. PETERSBURG — Commissioner Rob Manfred is coming to the Trop today. Hmm. Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg will be there to greet him. Hmmmm. And they have a scheduled joint media session. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Commissioner Rob Manfred isn’t expected to say anything definitive about the Rays’ stadium situation when he visits the team today.
