ST. PETERSBURG — Johnny Hubbard threw for 106 yards and two first-half touchdowns in Calvary Christian's first victory over Keswick Christian.
Calvary (2-5, 2-2) opened the scoring ion a 10-yard pass to Trent Trask. Running back DeJuan Wright answered for Keswick, taking the first play of the next possession 60 yards. Hubbard responded in the second with a 13-yard pass to Jordan Schmidt. Schmidt also had a fumble recovery for a score.
Derek Sanson got the Crusaders (0-7, 0-4) within a touchdown with a 1-yard score at the end of the half. Then Hubbard put the Warriors back in front by 14 with a 1-yard plunge in the third quarter.
"The kids came out and knew it would be a battle," Calvary coach Chris Rivera said. "The guys answered the call."
