Dunedin promotes Benson to coach

You could say Dunedin coach Jack Benson won twice on Friday.

Not only did his team emerge victorious over Lakewood, he was named head coach. Benson, 48, the JV coach the past three seasons, takes over for Mark Everett, who was fired this spring. Benson spent spring practice as the interim coach.

The school did not post the position and had not scheduled any interviews.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity," said Benson, a teacher at Dunedin. "We have a great group of kids who are starting to buy into what we're doing."
