NEW PORT RICHEY — With both teams hoping to get their first win of the season Friday, Anclote shut out Ridgewood 24-0.
The Sharks scored first late in the second quarter. Facing fourth and 13 on Ridgewood's 28-yard line, the Sharks chose to go for it and Brandon Vinkler found Willie Barrett for a touchdown.
To begin the second half, Anclote (1-3, 1-0) put together a drive that lasted for more than half the third quarter. The Sharks appeared ready to punt after a third down in Ridgewood territory ended in an incompletion.
The special teams went onto the field and put the game away as punter Tim Shumate threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jamaree Reid. The Rams (0-4, 0-1) were able to gain only 38 yards of total offense after that.
"The offensive line did an outstanding job today and opened everything up," said Vinkler, who finished with 148 passing yards.
Barrett ran the ball 15 times for 116 yards and caught a touchdown pass.
"Anclote is coming together as a team and we are coming for another playoff berth," he said.
A pair of sophomore running backs for the Rams had standout performances. Glass Wilson had 76 rushing yards on 10 attempts, and Clarence Farria carried seven times for 38 yards and caught a 63-yard pass.
