HOLIDAY — Gulf pulled out the tricks on its first drive Friday, recovering an onside kick, but it wasn't enough in a 49-10 loss to Anclote. The Buccaneers' Chris Klyap pitched to Avery Welch, who then launched a 45-yard pass to Morgan Smith to open the scoring just one minute into the game.
The Sharks (3-4, 3-2) tied the score when junior Willie Barrett scored from 36 yards midway through the second quarter. After a Gulf punt, Barrett went 80 yards down the right sideline for a score on the next play. He added his third touchdown of the half with 1:43 left from 1 yard. Gulf (0-7, 0-5) kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired in the half.
The second half was dominated by Barrett, who added three more touchdowns and finished with 16 rushes for 331 yards.
