TAMPA — From the very first offensive snap, Gordon Stetson made it known he came to play. On the opposite side of the ball, Zack Mayes did more of the same for Berkeley Prep as the Buccaneers took down visiting Sarasota Cardinal Mooney 14-7 on Friday night. Berkeley Prep led 14-0 at the break, but the Cougars made a late push on a 46-yard touchdown pass from running back Bryce Williams in the fourth quarter.
Key drive: With 22.9 seconds left, Cardinal Mooney converted a fourth-and-long play after a Berkeley Prep defender tipped the ball into a Cougar's hands. Moments later, senior linebacker Mayes came up with a clutch interception and the Bucs ended it in victory formation.
Stars of the game: Stetson, a senior running back, totaled 173 yards and two touchdowns on 20 total touches.
