Bishop McLaughlin rattled off its second consecutive win Friday with a shutout victory over Merritt Island Christian.
"Every week we're playing better and better," second-year coach Derrick Alexander said.
Bishop McLaughlin (2-2) struck first with a touchdown rush by senior Austin Meyers — last week's hero after a four-touchdown game. That put the Hurricanes up 7-0 heading into halftime.
That was plenty of scoring for a defense that's uniting under Alexander, a former defensive terror at Florida State. Bishop's defenders flew to the ball and harassed Merritt Island Christian's backfield all night.
"We just tried to take pride in the opportunity we had," Alexander said of his defense, which earned its first shutout in his tenure.
The Hurricanes added two more scores in the second half. Sammy Sullivan rushed for a score, and John Cummings booted a field goal.
