ST. PETERSBURG — Bishop McLaughlin wasted no time playing the homecoming spoiler. In the first quarter tough running by Giovanni Perone and turnovers put the Chargers in a bind. Perone, who rushed for a game-high 240 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns, scored on a 49-yard run in the first quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff the Hurricanes quickly marched down the field as Mitch Ritter tossed a 13-yard touchdown to Christian Nummy for a 14-0 lead. The Chargers appeared to be moving the ball into territory only to be denied. The potent offense of the Hurricanes struck when Jordan Betancourt went 70 yards untouched for another score to build a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.
