BRANDON — Brandon relied on its defense and a solid ground game to seal a tight victory over Durant. Three first-half turnovers by the Cougars gave Brandon good field position and led to two scores in the second quarter.
Durant finished with four turnovers, two of which Brandon turned into touchdowns in the second quarter. A fumble gave the Eagles the ball on the Durant 27-yard line and a few plays later senior Shawn Council ran 21 yards to give Brandon the lead.
Just before the half, the Eagles capitalized on an interception when quarterback Josh Celerin threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to BJ Dawkins.
Durant's offense came alive in the second half but could get only one score after a botched punt gave the Cougars the ball on the Brandon 21-yard line.
