ST. PETERSBURG — Running back Stephen Rice scored three touchdowns as Calvary Christian coach Dave Bonchi got his first career victory, 28-13 over Shorecrest Prep.
Rice scored on a 26-yard run late in the second quarter. He took a screen pass from Allen Barnes 66 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, and closed out the fourth quarter with a 59-yard run. He totaled 117 rushing yards.
Shorecrest made it 14-7 in the middle of the third quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run by Christian Mandula. Allen Barnes responded with a 61-yard score.
In the middle of the fourth quarter Shorecrest cut the lead to 21-13 on a 3-yard run by Alex Drexler.
Bonchi said, "It feels good because these kids never quit, played through cramps, injuries, and came together as a team."
