Football: Canterbury 21, Bradenton St. Stephens 7

ST. PETERSBURG — Canterbury's Sammy Faucette aims to dominate the ground game, and on Friday, he helped the Crusaders do that on both sides of the ball.

Faucette, a senior, rushed for two touchdowns and 106 yards on 17 carries, helping host Canterbury (5-0) defeat St. Stephens Episcopal 21-7. On defense, the middle linebacker helped anchor a defense that held the Falcons to 25 rushing yards on 19 attempts.

"He's a grinder, and when we need something, he's our go-to guy," Canterbury coach Bill Jones said. "I challenge to see any back that physical as good as him. … He doesn't come off the field and is still ready to go when the clock is at zero."

Faucette scored from 12 yards 3:28 into the game. As the Crusaders held the Falcons (1-4) at bay, Dontell Green extended the lead with his on 28-yard rush to make it 14-0 heading into halftime and Faucette scored again from 32 yards in the third quarter to make it 21-0.

Sam Dages got St. Stephens on the board when he found Luc Doegers on a slant pass. A fumble gave the Falcons a chance in the fourth quarter. But dropped passes, including six in the final three drives, sent them home with a loss.
