CLEARWATER — Clearwater Central Catholic defeated Indian Rocks Christian 21-13 to pick up its second district victory. Nick Newton led the Marauders, completing 11 of 13 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. He intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
IRC (2-3, 0-2) scored on a 1-yard run from Ryan Williams. On the following possession the Marauders (5-1, 2-1) tied the game on a 12-yard pass from Newton to Devante Mitchem. Michael Stevenson scored on an 11-yard run late in the second, and. Justin Goodloe scored a 15-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7. IRC scored on a 1-yard run by Kyle Cleary early in the fourth to cut the lead to 21-13. The Marauders' defense held twice after that, with Newton's interception ending the final threat.
