NAPLES — Clearwater Central Catholic's offense is based on a strong running game. Lely couldn't come close to stopping it, and with a few passes thrown in, the Marauders bulldozed Lely 48-10 Friday night.
Lely received the kickoff to open the game and Alfrande Pierre ran it back 50 yards to the Marauders' 40-yard line. Four plays later it was punting.
Clearwater Central mounted an 11-play, 70-yard drive, featuring 10 running plays, capped by a touchdown pass from J.T. Steele to Jacobi Adderley. The extra point was good, and Clearwater Central never looked back.
Diquan Walker and Steele helped the Marauders control the ball. Steele and Jeff Smith shared quarterback duties with Smith tossing a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Lely did not record a first down until three minutes left in the third quarter.
"We made a lot of mistakes that are correctable," Lely coach Culmer St. Jean said.
