Football: Countryside 44, Dunedin 7

DUNEDIN — In the Class 5A, District 8 opener for both teams, Countryside started strong and cruised to victory over Dunedin.

The Cougars were led by running back Diomi Roberts, who had 17 rushes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. He was helped by running back Ryan Yates, who rushed seven times for 39 yards and a pair of third-quarter touchdowns.

The Cougar defense stood tall in the first half. Linebacker Josh Pendergist intercepted Anthony Diviney. The Cougars also added a safety as a result of a holding penalty on the Falcons in their end zone.

"The kids played hard. They executed and limited their mistakes," Cougars coach Jared Davis said.

The Falcons' lone score came on a 2-yard run by Diviney to end the third quarter.
