FORT MEADE — Ryan Fulse proved quite a mudder.

Despite a slick field from hours of rain before and during the game, Fulse racked up 260 yards and three explosive touchdowns on 19 carries to lead Fort Meade to a 32-12 victory over Tampa Catholic on Friday night.

It was sweet revenge for the fired-up Miners in this district opener in Class 3A-4. Fort Meade (4-0) lost to the Crusaders (0-4) the past two years, keeping the Miners out of the playoffs last season for the first time in 15 years.

Fulse got 166 yards on his three TD carries, from 43, 29 and 94 yards.

Jaquez Wright returned a fumble 59 yards, and Malik Mills caught a 5-yard pass from Jessie Henson for the other scores.

"It's one game, but it's a good one to win, the first district game," Fort Meade coach Jemalle Cornelius said. "(Fulse) had a great game, he's worked real hard, and Jaquez's fumble return was big too."

In the third quarter, with a 19-6 lead and a third and 2 on their own 18, the Miners needed two plays to cover 82 yards and break the game open.

First DeAndre Holley caught a pass and turned it into a 53-yard gain, then Fulse wouldn't go down, busting in from 29 yards.
