LARGO — Indian Rocks Christian dominated Melbourne Holy Trinity 40-6 Friday.

The stifling defense of the Golden Eagles (3-1) made it tough for Holy Trinity (0-4) to move the ball all night. That dominance gave IRC's offense great field position throughout the game.

The Golden Eagles' passing attack never got going, but they didn't need it since their ground game was overwhelming, finishing with 265 yards.

Key drive: Early in the third quarter, the Eagles were up 19-0, but Holy Trinity was fighting to get back into the game. After a huge fourth-down stop by the Eagles, running back Zanta Shubert broke loose on the next play, running 65 yards for a touchdown and a 26-0 lead for IRC.

Stars of the game: Shubert had a huge game for the Golden Eagles with 177 rushing yards and two touchdown runs (65 and 52 yards) on just nine carries. Fullback Tyler Brown added 66 yards rushing and a score from 40 yards out. The Eagles defense recorded five turnovers, including two interceptions, a safety and an 85-yard fumble recovery return from D'whan Poole, who had a stellar game.

Final word: "Proud of the kids tonight. A lot of guys stepped up and really came to play. A few things to clean up as we go into a gauntlet of three games in eight days. We left four scores on the board, and that has to be fixed. We'll continue to get better every day as we preach here and continue to fight every snap." — Indian Rocks coach Jason Stokes
