TAMPA — Jesuit's special teams scored two touchdowns in the first half and junior Larry Hodges added two second-half touchdowns to pace the host Tigers to a 28-14 win over Ridge Community 14. Ridge Community was unable to overcome a tough first half with minus 20 yards on offense.
Key firsts: Jesuit (1-2) lived off "firsts" to jump out 21-0. Dane Belton returned the game-opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown . Kendrick Torain returned a blocked punt 15 yards on the first play of the second quarter, and Jesuit's offense embarked on a 14-play scoring drive on the first drive of the second half.
Play of the game: Hodges made a sensational one-handed catch on a 29-yard pass from quarterback Enzo Tedesco to set up his first score.
Key drive: Jesuit's first drive of the second half was a momentum grabber and a time killer, eliminating more than eight minutes of clock. EJ Berry paced the offense on this drive with 7 rushes for 28 yards.
Key stats: While Ridge Community (3-1) was held to -20 yards offense in the first half, Jesuit was not much better at 24 total offensive yards.
