ST. PETERSBURG — For the second straight week, Lakewood shut out an opponent, beating district foe Blake 33-0 Friday. The defense registered three sacks and an interception.
"We played hard and we were very physical," coach Cory Moore said. "Discipline will take us even further."
Lakewood wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard as Tracy Johnson led his team on 79-yard drive in the first quarter, capped off by a 13-yard TD run by Laterian Latimer. In the second quarter the Spartans erupted for three scores — a 29-yard touchdown strike from Johnson to Darquez Watson, an 8-yard TD run from Zamarie Johnson and a blocked a punt in the end zone that was recovered by Oshario Mitchell.
Late in the third quarter Johnson left with an injury.
