WESLEY CHAPEL — Coming off a preseason victory last week against Citrus, Wesley Chapel looked to start the regular season with that momentum. The Wildcats started well, opening the scoring when Jacob Thomas hit Brian Mena for a 1-yard score. Land O'Lakes had a hard time getting any type of offense, as the Wildcats held the Gators to 40 yards in the first half, but in the second half Land O'Lakes capitalized on some costly Wildcat fumbles.

Key drive: The Gators recovered a Wesley Chapel fumble with 9:33 left in the third quarter and tied the score just a minute later when Dejon Yearling took a 4-yard run up the middle into the end zone.

Play of the game: Thirty seconds after the Gators tied it, Land O'Lakes linebacker Marc Herrera picked off a Thomas pass to put his offense back on the field. Gators quarterback Spencer Childress made the next highlight himself with a 30-yard run to give his team a 14-7 lead it never relinquished.

Star of the game: After a quiet first quarter, with one carry, Yearling added 30 yards on the ground including the touchdown.
