Football: Land O'Lakes 41, Mitchell 7

LAND O'LAKES — Land O'Lakes did its part Friday night, beating Mitchell 41-7 in order to have a chance at making the postseason. With Pasco beating Sunlake, the Gators (8-1, 6-1) made the postseason for the 14th consecutive year.

Gators quarterback Stevie Weatherford made sure the streak wouldn't stop at 13th with 176 passing yards and 81 rushing yards. James Tello caught nine passes for 109 yards and Will Irwin caught five for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

The Gators defense held Mitchell (5-5, 3-4) to one touchdown and a missed field-goal opportunity. Defensive back Wesley Moore had three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and a fumble recovery.

Mustangs quarterback Matt Michaels did everything he could to get his team back in the game, leading an early third-quarter drive that resulted in a touchdown, including a 42-yard fake punt run. Running back Freddie Jones had nine rushes but also threw an interception.

Mitchell fumbled twice and lost both, ending the Mustangs' hopes of a comeback.
