LAND O'LAKES — Coming off its first loss of the season against crosstown rival Sunlake, Land O'Lakes rebounded with a big win against Fivay on homecoming night. A standout performance by quarterback James Pensyl enabled the Gators (7-1, 2-1) to remain in contention for the playoffs.
The difference in the first half was the Gators' ability to make defensive stops in their own territory and hold Fivay (3-5, 0-3) to field goals. In contrast, the Falcons were unable to stop their opponent from getting into the end zone. Their defensive woes were due in large part to Pensyl's ability to remain in the pocket and find open receivers. His running ability provided a dual threat the Falcons were unable to contain.
Pensyl went 9-of-20 with 221 yards. He finished with three passing touchdowns and two rushing.
Gators senior Mike Studenberg ran the ball 14 times for 78 yards. Javin Tandy had 52 yards and one touchdown on five carries. He also caught a 93-yard touchdown.
