RUSKIN — For the second straight week, Lennard leaned on a stingy defense and the offense scored just enough. But the Longhorns won 17-0 Friday to reach 2-0 for the first time in school history.
"Obviously we're going to be more confident," coach George Eddington said. "It's good to be 2-0. It's better than being 0-2."
The host Longhorns scored all the points they would need in the final 44 seconds of the first half. Alejandro Chavez, who missed a 34-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter, drilled a 35-yarder.
Then, right after Leto crossed midfield for the first time, Greg Doss returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown as time expired. The point-after made it 10-0.
In the fourth quarter, Peter Foret replaced quarterback Fred Porter and completed a 36-yard touchdown pass to Brian Phillips.
