RUSKIN — Quarterback Fred Porter scored from a yard out with 2 minutes 15 seconds left as Lennard posted its first-ever comeback victory, 28-24 over Class 2A, District 5 rival Strawberry Crest.
"Being a young program we haven't been able to do that," Lennard coach George Edington said.
The Chargers nearly pulled off a dramatic finish of their own. In the final minute, Donnardo Fields caught a 15-yard fourth-down pass tipped by teammate Karel Hamilton. But backup quarterback Brandon Reaves was sacked by Abraham Esteva and Reaves' next fourth-down pass fell incomplete on fourth and 24.
Trailing 24-13, Lennard's Kelton Halback blocked a punt and Daniel Faison recovered in the end zone on the last play of the third quarter. Lennard pulled within three on Porter's conversion run.
