PINELLAS PARK — In a game that went down to the final drive, Northeast outlasted Pinellas Park in the district opener for both.
The Vikings allowed 89 yards, had two sacks, intercepted three passes and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
"Our defense plays well every week," Vikings coach Jay Austin said. "I just keep messing it up on offense. I have to coach better."
Trez Jones recovered a fumble for Northeast and returned it 3 yards for a touchdown just before halftime. Steven Higgins set up the next Vikings score with his first of two interceptions. Eli Pedigo's 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter put Northeast up for good.
The Patriots jumped to a 10-0 lead as Matt Gaskin kicked a 36-yard field goal and Jesse Hevia ran in a 4-yard touchdown. Northeast came back after knocking Hevia out of the game.
