ST. PETERSBURG — Dixie Hollins was positioned for a last-second win Friday but a field-goal try with 12 seconds remaining was blocked and Northeast escaped with a 24-23 victory in Mike Jalazo's first game as Vikings coach.
The game was tied at 10 at halftime. In the third quarter, Vikings freshman Ryan Davis led a short drive capped by a 5-yard pass to Dalton Clark. Dixie responded as Dana Harrington connected with De'Vonte Marion for a 34-yard TD.
After trading scores again, Northeast held a one-point lead after a missed extra point.
Dana Harrington kept the Rebels in the game, darting down the sideline for a 40-yard gain and setting up the field-goal try. The Vikings blocked the attempt to escape with the win.
