Football: South Sumter 63, Weeki Wachee 20

BUSHNELL — South Sumter (9-0, 6-0) clinched its 16th district title last week. Weeki Wachee, meanwhile, was coming off a nice homecoming win against 8A Orlando Colonial. But Friday, South Sumter capped its Class 5A, District 6 dominance with a 63-20 victory over the Hornets (3-6, 1-4) on homecoming.

"They're head and shoulders above us," Hornets coach Mark Lee said. "Coach Sherman has done an outstanding job, and that's where we want to be."

The Raiders scored 56 first-half points and amassed 661 total yards. The closest the Hornets came was when Tyler Wiley ran an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 9:31 to go in the first quarter after the Raiders scored on their opening possession. But the extra point was blocked leaving the score at 7-6.

The Raiders scored the next 35 points before Wiley sprinted past the Raiders' kickoff team again for a 90-yard touchdown.

The Raiders held the Hornets to minus-2 rushing yards in the first half. David Tinch scored on a 2-yard TD rush in the fourth quarter.
