WESLEY CHAPEL — Lightning delayed the start of Friday's game between Tampa Bay Tech at Wiregrass Ranch then forced the postponement of the Class 7A, District 7 game. With the Titans leading 21-0, the game was halted and will resume at 7 p.m. Monday.
Coaches and administrators from both schools made the decision after a 15-minute delay with 6:59 remaining in the first quarter. The start of the game was delayed by a half-hour.
Tampa Bay Tech's Tajee Fullwood returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. The Titans scored again after recovering the ensuing onside kick. Richard Benjamin scored on a 6-yard run, and Deon Cain completed a 40-yard touchdown pass to Donzell Polite down the left sideline.
Postponed, Part II: At Anclote, it took the Sharks only one play to get off to the early lead. Quarterback John Forgione connected with Tymere Carter for the 56-yard score. The Rams responded back with a 12-play, seven-minute drive, which ended with quarterback Will Fulmer taking it in from the 1-yard line evening the score at 7 after the first quarter.
Ridgewood's next possession lasted only one play when Tyler Vito fumbled. Anclote scored four plays later when Trent Crawford went in from 2 yards out, making the score 13-7. Sharks running back Willie Barrett had five rushes for 115 yards in the first half, 91 coming on one play with 3:11 left in the half for a commanding 20-7 lead.
The second half was halted due to a rain delay, then a blown transformer caused the lights to remain off for the night. The game picks back up Monday at 6 p.m.
