Football: Tampa Catholic 37, Northeast 28

ST. PETERSBURG — Tampa Catholic outscored host Northeast 23-7 in the second half to win a 37-28 shootout.

The Crusaders (6-1, 1-1) had 14 unanswered points to open the second half. Heath Grady's 23-yard field goal put Tampa Catholic ahead for good in the fourth.

Ryan Davis hit his running back Donterio Fowler on a 6-yard pass, and a 2-point conversion gave the Vikings (5-2, 1-1) an early 8-7 lead. Northeast led 21-7 just before halftime on another short pass from Davis to Auggie Sanchez.

Sanchez's impressive defensive performance kept the Vikings in the game; he helped shut down a potent ground attack and intercepted Ploucher with a one-hand grab. Northeast's Chris Jackson returned one interception 50 yards for a score.
