TAMPA — It was a homecoming to remember for Tampa Catholic: a 30-minute lightning delay in the second quarter and a running clock over the final 8:30.
Kyle Ploucher was solid for the Crusaders (5-0), 19-of-25 for 225 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. But the defense starred. It forced six turnovers (four fumbles) and scored twice. TC also blocked a punt.
"That was awesome," said linebacker Tre Watson, who set up 10 first-half points with a blocked punt and fumble recovery.
After the Highlanders pulled within 24-14 early in the third, TC scored three times in four minutes: T.J. Harrell's 39-yard run, Michael Sarafianos' 42-yard interception return and Cody Endris' 60-yard fumble return that made it 45-14.
