WESLEY CHAPEL — Countryside put a damper on homecoming festivities at Wiregrass Ranch by scoring eight touchdowns in a 56-0 victory on Friday.

The Cougars appeared to be in full stride despite coach Jared Davis' decision to give Christian Strong the night off and go with backup quarterback Robby Hicks along with a committee of running backs.

"We're very comfortable with (Hicks) in our system," Davis said. "He's a good quarterback, and he has earned the playing time. I think he showed what he can do when given the chance."

Countryside took the lead with their first touch of the ball, senior Marreio Taylor returning a punt 64 yards. Taylor later added a 43-yard touchdown catch.

The Cougars' leading rusher, senior Mike Jerrido, took the majority of the night off but ran twice for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Cougars limited Wiregrass Ranch to 73 yards of offense, 4 in the second half.

"We've been challenging the defense all year long to keep pushing themselves," Davis said. "We keep saying that it doesn't matter who we play or how big the game is. We have to do what we do and continue to get better at it."
