Football: Victory Christian 47, Admiral Farragut 21

LAKELAND — As Kevin Coy drank water on the sideline during the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, he heard a familiar voice yelling at him.

"Put the water bottle down and tell the coach you are ready," said Charles Nelson Sr., Coy youth football coach and father figure.

Coy's performance proved he was more than ready in guiding Victory Christian School to a 47-21 win over Admiral Farragut.

"I had to go back out there," said Coy, who rushed for 102 on eight carries and a touchdown. "I'm a go-getter. I'm a senior. I'm trying to go out with a bang."

And he was a bang on both sides of the football. After arming the Storm (1-0) with a 35-21 lead with 5:41 remaining in the game on a 13-yard gallop, Coy, who also plays middle linebacker, returned an interception 92 yards for another score two minutes later.

Coy's impact came mostly in the second half after Admiral Farragut took a 7-3 lead into the half on Napoleon Maxwell's 5-yard touchdown run.

"We went into the locker room at halftime and coach (Tommy Lewis) gave us a pep talk," said Coy, who has been shown interest from USF and UCF. "He told us to pick it up, and that's what we tried to do."
