Tampa Catholic running back Devan Barrett, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior, is one of the most highly recruited players in the Tampa Bay area, boasting 38 offers, including ones from Florida State, Florida, Miami, Notre Dame and Southern California. Last season, Barrett rushed for 1,891 yards and 21 touchdowns. He'll return this fall as one of many standout skill players on the Crusaders' roster.

What was it like to get all that recruiting attention during the offseason?

"Like always, it feels really good. I'm not an attention kind of person, but it's going real good. It's hectic at the end of my junior season, going into my senior season. But I'm just looking forward to being recruited more."

Do you have any idea when you want to make a decision?

"I'm just playing it by ear. Right now I have no idea where I want to go. I like a lot of schools. I'm just going to take the process slow."

Have you taken any unofficial visits?

"Yeah, I took unofficials to Florida, Auburn UCF, USF. I'm just kind of getting around to see some of them."

What kind of things are you looking for in terms of a program you'd like to join?

"Mostly playing time, how I'm coached, what coaches can get me to the next level, where I want to be. Then secondly the school and what I want to major in. I want to be a coach. After I'm done with college, if I don't make it to the NFL, I'd like to be a graduate assistant and maybe get into coaching."

What were you able to learn from former teammate Nate Craig (Auburn signee) and his high profile recruitment?

"He's my big brother. He's walked me through everything, just telling me to stay humble and just leave all my options open and make the right decision for me."

How's everything looking for the Crusaders this season?

"It's early. We're just trying to piece it together right now, and we'll pick it up in the middle of the spring. Hopefully we'll do real good this year. We have a lot of people coming back, a lot of experienced people. We should go real far with the kind of team we've got."
