ST. PETERSBURG — Despite gaining 12 first downs, Shorecrest Prep fell at home.
The Chargers looked like they might put the game's first points on the board, taking the opening drive into Vikings territory. But they could get no closer than the 37-yard line and settled for a short punt that pinned Lakeland Christian at its own 15.
But the Chargers defense was unable to stop the Vikings' running attack, and seven plays later, the visitors led 7-0. It was a theme that repeated itself frequently.
Quarterback Hunter Tremaine was a bright spot for Shorecrest. He scored the team's only touchdown in the third quarter on a drive in which he accounted for 52 of the 67 yards.
