PLANT CITY – The Raiders defense controlled Riverview's rushing attack to earn its third consecutive shutout. Plant City improved to 2-1 in Class 5A, District 6, keeping its playoff hopes alive.
"Our defense got a good test tonight," Plant City coach Jason Strunk said.
On the other side of the ball, quarterback Bennie Coney engineered three consecutive scoring drives in the middle of the game. He completed 14 consecutive passes before missing for the first time in the fourth quarter.
"He was good in the beginning of the year. He's gotten a lot better as the year's gone on. There's not a ball he can't throw in the field," Strunk said.
Riverview replaced starting quarterback Jerid Heffers with Bryson Rodgers in the fourth but the change did little for the Sharks.
