TAMPA — In Dean Eychner's first game as Brandon coach Friday night, the Eagles finished with a hard-fought 20-6 preseason victory over Blake in a game riddled with penalties and injuries.
Brandon powered its way to victory with the running back duo of Isiah Harris and Cyrus Dooley, who combined for 154 yards and three touchdowns. While the Eagles' passing game is a work in progress, Eychner was pleased to see that his team can move the ball on the ground well enough to compensate.
"Our philosophy is much like our community, it's blue-collar," Eychner said. "We're going to line up and come after you with the run game.
"As long we're solid on defense we'll be good, and I'm optimistic about some of the things we did on defense tonight."
The defense was possibly the best part of the night for the Eagles, as it kept Blake from so much as picking up a first down until the start of the fourth quarter.
The Yellow Jackets' only score came on a punt block midway through the fourth quarter, which was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by Blake's John Franklin.
