BRADENTON — The start of Robinson's preseason game at Bayshore was delayed 20 minutes and the contest kicked off without any working lights on the field. After eight plays, a lightning strike suspended play for another 47 minutes.
"It was hard to get a regular-season atmosphere," Bayshore coach Jean Gordon said. "It was more like a carnival atmosphere."
Once the lights came on, the Knights prevailed 19-13.
The Knights answered a Bruins TD with a 10-yard strike from Blake Rice to Ruben Gonzalez with only 37 seconds remaining before halftime. Rice put his team ahead for good with a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, as he hit 6-of-7 passes at one point. Robinson appeared to have things in hand when JJ Hubbard broke loose for a 49-yard touchdown two minutes into the fourth quarter.
But Bayshore answered with a Joshua Maugherman 1-yard sneak with 2:48 left. The Bruins had the ball in Robinson territory when the clock ran out.
